Easy Framed Monogram Project

About a month ago, I showed you the "B" (our monogram) that I had found on a thrifting trip. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it, but since I live in the Northeast, spray painting hasn't exactly been an option (have you read the news lately?!).

Well, yesterday I had had enough.

I wanted to spray paint, and I wanted to spray paint right.now.

So.....I did!
And let me tell you, it felt SO good to get that out of my system! Of course, the tropical paradise we're currently living in isn't exactly conducive to the best paint jobs, but that's totally okay by me - I'll just give it another coat come Spring!

I took this gold frame that I got for $1 last year at the flea market.

{As a side note, my first attempt at this project was to mix my acrylic paints for a worn brown look - but all I got was a creepy 70's feel. Yuck!}

Instead, I spray painted it with a coat of Heirloom White.

Then I took a piece of scrapbook paper that I got from the Dollar Spot at Target literally 3 years ago and hadn't used yet. I trimmed it to fit,

then I attached my "B" with super glue and begged it to stay. (haha)
And it did!

Here's the finished product - I am in looooove with it! :)

Here's the breakdown:
Frame: $1
Brass "B" $.45
Scrapbook paper: $.10 {$1 for 10 sheets}
Total: $1.55 {plus spray paint and Gorilla Glue}

Not too shabby! (Anytime I say that I think of Adam Sandler. :) Anyone else?)

You could easily make your own variation on this project -
you can find 3-D letters at any craft store!

  1. Loved how your framed monogram turned out. I did something similar a while back with a tray. I used double sided tape to hold my letter in place. I just couldn't commit to glue! And that puppy is still holding!!!!! :)

    My dd has a B first name and she lives in Apt B in her building. It would be fun to sneak over and attach something like this to her door.
